MountainWest Baseball has announced its new top player list for the 2012 season. The long anticipated lists include the top players from each class of 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 in the state of Utah. The list has been compiled by the MBA staff. Most players have been personally observed by the MBA professional staff of evaluators (which includes full time professional scouts and college coaches) as a result of recommendations from other professional scouts and college recruiters. Recommendation forms were also passed out to all the Utah high school coaches for them to recommend candidates for consideration. Most of these players are participants in the MountainWest Prospect Games, Junior Olympics, Spring Training or one of the Scout Teams, but players do not have to be in any of these events or programs as a condition of making the list.
We understand the difficulty in ranking and listing young players. Despite the difficulties, it provides a look at most the area’s top prospects, and is designed to inspire players and promote the game to all players. We understand that we may have overlooked a few players.
We also understand players develop and progress at different rates. The overall future potential of the player is given the most weight, and not necessarily the best player now. More importantly players, who have tested their skills regionally and nationally, in addition to local play, were also given more weight.
